If you have a good pc you can emulate it, making it run 1080p/ 60 fps. But yes its worth getting a PS2 to play the still best Gran Turismo and one of the best racing games :) I’m trying to figure out how all those YouTube videos on PS2/3 emulators work. GT7 is definitely one of the better simcades. But 5k is a little too much for games imo. I mean you can still go for it if your budget allows, or you could wait a few months for a sale. Since its a simcade you don't need a steering wheel at all to play well in GT7. You can be just as good with a controller.
