The MK1 Focus came just before everything went to CANBUS with modules and ECUs scattered throughout the car. The engines in the MK1 Focus will be much simpler and probably cheaper to repair and/or replace than the new stuff. Practicality Focus MK1 folding rear seats arrangement give an almost flat load space.
14-15v on run is normal, if its 14.6 and up it usually means its trying to charge the battery quicker.. average life i find depends on the type and make of the battery in question as mentioned in other threads ive seen batteries last 4-7 years on average but i find they are bargain basement batteries you buy at corner autostores.. the factory batteries i see last 7+ years but it also depends

The important thing when you comparison shop sizes/brands it to look closely at CCR, Reserve Capacity, and warranty. Depending on a battery's internal design a given smaller battery can sometimes have better specs than a larger battery. The 2003 Focus owners manual lists the 96R for the Zetec engine and 40R for the SPI engine. Hope this helps Some of the cables for the cam or crank sensor are part of the wire harness that gets pulled or yanked when a battery is swaped. Also the battery terminals are known to be crap and brake and cause intermtient starting issues. Check the battery terminal and check the corrosion or broken wire strands.
